good morning!
please have your comp. book on your desk. Label it with the following: Date: Focus: Pre-thinking Prompt: Choose one of the following prompts to write about for 4 min. 1. What do you remember about our conversation on Wed.? 2. Why should cell phones be/not be used in school? Time: 4 min. We will then move into close reading strategies. These will be you're steps to accomplish in you're journal: Date: 1. Read the title and make a prediction about what you think the author is going to say (be sure to include at least two complete sentences. Use part of the question in your answer and explain why you are making that prediction. 2. Highlight all words that are not totally familiar. Then use a dictionary and your friends to define those words in your own terms (feel free to illustrate). 3. Skim the text and find someone who is reading the same article and share what you think the article will be about. Feel free to share your opinions as well. 4. Read the article on your own and underline the most important sentence in each paragraph. 5. Summarize the article in one complete paragraph. Then meet with someone who read a DIFFERENT article and give them your summary to read. (Do NOT talk about it...just read each other's summaries). 6. Write any questions or comments you have about their summary in their journal. Sign your name. Remember, you will be graded based on how well you follow directions in your journals, so make sure you are careful in following directions. Next: Edit the errors in this blog post and be prepared to discuss' your thoughts about your article with a small group. Be prepared to back up your thoughts with evidence from the text.
